National Assembly President Concludes First Official Visits with Laos, Vietnam

VIENTIANE: With the Cambodia-Vietnam-Laos Parliamentary Summit taking place in Laos this week, Cambodia’s National Assembly President Khuon Sodary led a high-level delegation to pay official visits to Lao leaders ahead of the summit.

During the visit, Khuon Sodary met with her Lao counterpart, Xaysomphone Phomvihane, the President of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, and Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone. At each of the official meetings, the Cambodian and Lao delegations were sure to mention the traditional and historical relations between the two countries, which have been continuously promoted by every generation of leadership. They discussed matter of politics, security, economy, society and culture all while calling for the promotion of people-to-people relations.

The National Assembly Presidents of Laos and Cambodia vowed to work towards a more active and effective relationship between the two countries, and to promote the implementation of agreements reached between their parliaments and governments that have been made in the past, including the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two countries in 2022. They both supported the establishment of tourism policies by the three branches of government in line with the motto of “Three Countries, One Tourism Destination.”

The National Assembly of Cambodia supports Laos hosting the next ASEAN Summit in 2024 and says it’s ready to provide technical and material support to the Lao National Assembly in organizing the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Forum.

Having wrapped up her first official visits to the parliaments of Vietnam and Lao, Khuon Sodary is now attending the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam (CLV) Parliamentary Summit in the Laos capital of Vientiane from December 4-7.
